PESTLE is a term describing environmental analysis of an
organization (e.g. a project), in contrast to internal analysis e.g. by SWOT.
PESTLE means looking at political, economic, societal, technological, legal
and environmental aspects.
It helps to identify stakeholders, risks and requirements. It’s findings can
indeed be EEFs. Saving Changes...
It can add context to SWOT analysis and help with risk assessment. I've also added O (organizational) for PESTO or POETS analysis. Saving Changes...

The first step towards navigating uncertainty is conducting a comprehensive PESTLE analysis. Let’s imagine a retail company planning to expand its operations into a new country. Through PESTLE, they assess the local government’s policies and regulations (Political), evaluate the economic conditions and market trends (Economic), consider cultural and demographic factors (Social), analyze technological advancements (Technological), ensure compliance with local laws (Legal), and address environmental sustainability practices (Environmental). Armed with this insight, the company can make well-informed decisions and develop tailored strategies to tackle potential challenges and leverage opportunities in the new market.

A PEST - or more often used PESTLE - Analysis is a valuable tool to understand how external forces can impact an organization and/or a portfolio, program and project.
It constitutes a best practice for both Project Mangers and business leaders to assess the impact of macro-economic factors (also referred as EEFs in PMI Lingo) on the organization, both in terms or Risks and Opportunities, and plan accordingly.
PEST and PESTLE are both acronyms, and they stand for:
Polical
Economic
Social
Technological
Legal
Environmental
factors.
From a Project Management perspective, a Project Manager should be aware of how changes in these factors may impact the value realization and business case of their Project. I personally find useful to frame the PESTLE Analysis as a tool belonging to Risk Management practices.
PEST Analysis helps project managers assess external factors (Political, Economic, Social, and Technological) that may affect project success. It enables early risk identification, better planning, and informed decision-making, leading to smoother execution and stronger outcomes. Saving Changes...
