Sure - a PM must be approachable by team members and other stakeholders but should be able to set some limits so that they have some time for strategic thinking or other pursuits which require undisturbed concentration. They also should model good behavior for their team members by setting boundaries on a work day (e.g. not sending or responding to e-mail messages on weekends or while on vacation).

Completely agree with kiron, setting boundaries was the very first thing i mentioned to a new PM who joined the team. A good PM would normally have the ‘being approachable’ disposition without trying, though some may need to work on it! :-)

Definitely being approachable is key,but this is never an instant reaction from team members at the outset of a project and it may take some time as team members come to learn who you are as the PM and your style of management.
