Professional Services firms in time of a down turn

As we all know the market is in a down turn world wide at the moment. I'm doing some research for my small PSF in terms of how companies have handled this in the past (.com, 9/11 etc).

Any info on:

- Which companies thrived? Who didn’t survive or barely made it?

- What can we learn from them?

- What did they do that was successful? Why was it successful?

- What happened to those who didn’t do those things? What things were not successful?
