Does a PM with several years of experience qualify as Management in job level drop down list?

It often happens that Project Manager is not explicitly listed in the predefined drop down lists on companies website. In these modern times where everyone is a manager, head, director, etc. could a PM categorize as company's management? This would be in alignment with the realization of several companies across various industries that their businesses require project managers to survive and thus move up in the so called food chain. Just food for thought.

I would think so given the strategic impact a PM can have, but this really depends on what they mean by "management". In many companies, that term is reserved for those who have direct reports. In matrix or functional organization structures, PMs usually wouldn't.

A Project Manager moves from one Project to Another and often does not have a fixed team.
An Organisation will have strategic objectives and the PM would be working on one or more projects that will support the achievement of those objectives . They would not be in charge of defining those objectives though , because that's the function of the Strategic Leader/Manager who has Ongoing Operational Responsibility and will therefore be absolutely listed in the Management Structure.
Since a project by definition is a temporary endeavor with a defined beginning and end , The role of a Project Manager is restricted to being within those boundaries.
Therefore I can understand why they wouldn't be a part of the "Management" structure.

That will depend on your organization. In large enough ones, senior execs don't get their own tab..

PM should be in the management team whether its a permanent or temporary depending on type of assignment and organization because PM is responsible to implement organization's vision and align the products/services with the organization's goal and objective. Hence, PM should be a active member in the management team.
