I'm involved presently with a project that is purchasing various fleets of construction equipment. Over a dozen different types of vehicles totalling over 600 in number. The procurement strategy is challenging in trying determine the best mix. A key component will be understanding resource constraints on both. This is where real project management and integration and control come into play. To be successful IMHO, one must have an expert knowledge of the type of business your project is involved in and also have an excellent understanding of the potential bidders, and their strengths and weaknesses.
