It drains energy reporting and updating on more than 5 tasks in a day.

To me multi-tasking is not doing multiple tasks at one point of time. Instead it is the ability of doing different type of tasks at different times as and when needed. So, effectively a PM should be expert at doing multiple type of tasks at different times such as initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, communication, risk management, negotiation, conflict management and so on.

Like Wade, the best I can do is task-switching. What I find helps is finding logical stopping points, rather than switching blindly.

Long time ago someone in a job interview asked me " Are you a good multitasking?", my answer.. .yes, I can eat a sandwich while writing an e-mail.

If you are wondering...they never called me back.
Jajaja!

I once believed that I was a good “on demand task switcher” until I tried to manage 10+ active instant messaging windows while having two unfinished draft e-mails, a line outside my office and my primary task for the day left untouched on my desk.

Now, I’m at my desk but for some odd reason my IM status always says “in a meeting”. I wonder what made that happen?

It is strength for sure! But quality is much depended on the type, the number, and the complexity of work.

Hi Shadav,
It’s a strength if you know, how to choose which task to multitask. You can multitask two simple things. You cannot multitask, when you are doing complex task.
