It's critical in my opinion. In the very moment you stop being proactive, your project will snowball you. It will be a slow process, but it will be very hard to gain control again.

It is an essential quality in my opinion. It is necessary to be in control of a project. It is also a good leadership example for the rest of the project team.

You always need to have a proactive mindset or you better be a good damage control person. Seeing risks is what it is all about.

In my opinion, a PM must also be a leader, and by definition lead his/her team by being proactive. One cannot exist without the other. Equally important IMHO, a PM must have sound judgement and excellent business acumen skills.

We are project managers, not project "reporters" so proactivity is a must, not a nice-to-have.

agree that is a Must. However, we also need to have a good reaction time for issues and not only being proactive. In the agile work certainly I have valuated more reaction than proactive skills.

Especially in an agile environment it is crucial to be proactive, to catch situations before they can become issues.
