Can someone shed more light on RUP methodology?

Disciplined Agile Delivery uses RUP as one of its main source references and DAD is applicable beyond just technology projects. The process aspects of RUP such as its phases and key objectives such as proving architecture/design decisions early in the lifecycle (to reduce risk) are a couple of examples of this domain independence.

Modeling techniques such as UML, on the other hand, might not be applicable to certain domains...

RUP was not born as software related. RUP was born as system related where system is not software system. RUP has been used in lot of other domains mainly to take advantage of Use Cases to understand the system dynamic. RUP was created from object orientation and in my case I used the methods that compose RUP in isolation first and inside RUP after. I can not put the names here but I used RUP to create the new enteprise architecture definition for 5 companies which are listed between the top ten companies in the world between 1998-2002.

it is very unlikely to use RUP in Construction project.
