I am using a hammock task that for some unknown reason is failing for the finish date with an error stating that the "This task finishes on 12/19/08 which its before its 'Finish No Earlier Than' constraint on 12/24/08". A colleague informs me that with Project 07 there's a feature that will detail the reason for the violation. If true can someone point me in the right direction.

There are couple definitions for hammock task depending whether its a summary task or its a task which duration is determined by tasks between which it is situated.
For the second one
I guess the best is to check the constraints on the task:
Right click on task ->Task Infomation -> Advanced
And to make sure that the start and finish date are paste special links from tasks on the sides.
