If you are currently employed and hold an IT position in the company you can volunteer your PM skills for a project that you would feel comfortable managing.
It doesn't hurt to ask, it would show initiative in your career path to be a Project Manager. You won't know until you ask. They can only say "Yes" or "No". If it's a yes, then you just got your foot in the PM door and need to prove your skills to management that they made the right decision to give you a project to manage.
Best of luck Handirove! Just never give up and believe in yourself and keep developing your PM skills. Saving Changes...

Handirove, I had a biologist on a project team who became interested in project management. She asked if she could start managing some aspects of a project she was on. It wasn't long until she was a very qualified to manage projects. Saving Changes...

Much depends on what past experiences are. Could look for direct opportunities or look to move into a Business Analyst role, which at times can also play the role of PM, then move from there. That way you can build your resume up with direct PM experience to give hiring managers confidence on your experience. Saving Changes...
You might need to take a step back to take a step forward into the PM profession. To get a good grounding on what "real" project management is like, you could support a qualified senior PM as a project coordinator or project administrator for a while. That will give you relevant, specific experience which should help you land a PM role.
IT is becoming more and more mainstream and that includes the use of IT skills in project management. To be an effective project manager nowadays, having IT skills aside you can make a difference. Examples are endless when it comes to IT tools. My advice is to research the combination of PM - IT niches, like project performance and risk management analytics, multi-dimensional workflows modeling, project collaboration, interface management, etc. and align accordingly. This applies to all types of projects, including IT project management. Good luck! Saving Changes...
