Merging advertising mediums take a toll on IT Process Management

I've come from an IT project management background and work in an advertising agency with an interactive/digital department. Whenever I attempt to introduce "process", it almost seems as if it is a dirty word to creatives. I like to interchangeably use the terms "process" and "accountability", which is why the word seems offensive. I'm wondering if anyone out there has seen a paper or article describing challenges with merging creative and branding with IT processes.

And why do they call it the Creative Process? Being creative is a series of steps - from concept to actualization. Except for spontaneous art, there is no such thing as being purely creative - being a touch controversial here. Talk to your creative team, ask them what they do to flesh out an idea. What steps do they follow? At what point do they stop to check their progress? What language do they use amongst themselves to communicate their ideas?

Now, how do you latch on to their language and their processes. How does IT help them? How does accountability - your word - ease the creative process? I have worked on some cutting-edge projects in both the engineering world and the creative world. The process is the same - just different attitudes towards structure. It is an age-old lament.

Hope this helps,

I work with creatives a lot and "Process" is frowned upon because it infers control. If you focus instead on interaction, specifically with external organizations, you're gain some traction. The creative process is really quite like the analysis process. There are not really steps involved, but there are milestones. Track these milestones or stages without timelines as the complexity of the project can drastically change time spent in any one stage.

As an IT PM, you know that some IT development tasks are very creative in nature and as such it is difficult to put them in a box. Start with the high level process keeping it to 4 or 5 major steps. Define an input and output of each of the steps. Then, break down what goes on in each step. Eventually you will get to a process for doing the creative work.

I can supply you with some additional information and samples if you'd like, just let me know.
