I agree, feedback is crucial in enhancing productivity but wording, empathy, communication skills play very important role in this. If that ends up in criticizing rather then providing open and constructive feedback, it may not bring positive effects.
I have a personal story when I was learning horseback riding. My first trainer was very positive, he always encouraged me. I was total greenhorn and I had to overcome many fears when dealing with horses, but I progressed. Later however I had to change the trainer and location. My next trainer was very different, it was all about pointing out my imperfections one by one until after a year the trainer commented that I do not hold my pinkie in the right position. I quit.
