Dear All,
I may sound little crazy but I always wonder,as a project manager, whether I am planning and executing 24 hours in a day/everyday in the right way(productively).
Would you mind sharing how does your typical day looks like(I am sure there will be many things which will be done apart from job) so that we can learn from each other .
As per me once planning has been done and approved by all stakeholder and Sponsor, as a project manager his most of the times goes into communication with stakeholders, team building, conflict management, monitoring & control, performance review, Risk management. and change control system.
Once things moving as per plan and team getting settled and doing their work without any intervention then PM should concentrate on new technologies, what new customization is possible to design to do continuous improvement, self-development, continuous improvement in team members skills, looking at PMI triangle we can plan/do in that aspect for overall development of organization and self. Sometimes you are waiting for others to finish their work ; You could be waiting for procurement /contract sign offs or you could be waiting for team members to finish reviewing project documentation which you have already reviewed yourself.
You could spend these so called "Slack" periods planning for the next tranche of activities or analyzing risks in your project, updating your reports, schedules etc.
If you are working more than 8 -10 hours , you are not doing justice to yourself, your employer or to your family, because after a certain number of hours in a day , your productivity drops dramatically. Saving Changes...
