Depending on organizational culture, divisional disparity, PMO maturity, project size, and other factors, there might be multiple formal PM’s on a given project. What has been your experience, when you as the Directing Project Manager (i.e., the accountable PM) have a single point liaison with a given domain SME PM (e.g., IT Project Manager).

Sounds like stream management, with each stream having their own project manager. The tricky part is in not funnelling everything through the stream project manager. Members of one stream project team have to be able to access the members of another. You probably won't be able to do full agile across the streams but at least you should strive for as much low-level collaboration and cooperation as possible. Saving Changes...
