There is a poor knowledge over the PMO function. If CEO has under he line report the PMO probably most the questions will come around when the project is finished to invoice. If the PMO is under a board, then probably most of the question Will come around Projects. What should be the line report.

Thanks

A high leve, l in the organization that gives visibility to the projects, portfolio and decision making. I do not hinkg under the CEO but maybe under a high level executive that has a broad vision of the organization and gives independency to the decisions. A PMO needs a good support but also be independent enough to gives curse of action to align priorities to starategies and to make conversations happen around the organization. What happen if PMO funciotns are divided between different areas in the organization?

Thank you Dora. I don't think so should be divided because it can complicate to report diferent áreas due to objetives.

Ideally, a PMO is a strategic decision support group so reporting as high as possible would be ideal, but it also depends on the scope and mandate for the PMO.

I agree with Kiron comments. The scope and mandate can often see them sitting at different levels within organisations, however, that is all relative to the value that they can deliver.

I would not expect to see the PMO as a single entity reporting to one individual, but rather a collection of Project Managers either reporting to their respective functional managers or to the PMO Director (depends on the org structure) in support of strategic initiatives across the organization.

I believe there is no general solution to this. It has to do with your organizational structure and culture.

I don't believe there is a standard solution to this. The way the organisation is structured will determine the reporting channel.

A CEO is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the whole company and is best served by a Divisional executive , who drives the overall divisional strategy rather than projects or programs that contribute to the strategy.

The PMO should ideally then report to a Program Director or Project Portfolio Director, who then reports to the divisional executive .

But this could be a template for a large organization . I am sure many smaller organizations may have a different structure
