Hi

for us in the northern hemisphere summer is coming. It is a time where some, like me, would enjoy reading outside. Joining two pleasure.

I ask because there are so many books, I would love to maximize personal development and input from Project management people should help the selection

In your recent reading what are your tops suggestions? What is the key subject cover? comments.

I am on vacation in August. First in a long time. I am looking for suggestions to add to my Kindle before the trip! One for sure is I need to finish reading IT :).

Are we specifically looking at PD titles or generic as well?

One I have read most of that I enjoyed was 'People Before Things' by Chris Laping. It is a book around Change Management, but from a nice, easy read, perspective.

Another that is in my Kindle library that I have not gotten to yet is How to Stop Worrying & Start Living by Dale Carnagie.

Thanks, Andrew, sound like nice suggestions.

I already have on my list "Be a Project Motivator: Unlock the Secrets of Strengths-Based Project Management" by Ruth Pearce who did an excellent series of webinar here.

Please try my book Project Management PRAXIS -- self-published last year -- now available at Amazon. It has a lot of innovations to classic tools for project planning and monitoring, as well as several tools and techniques for project planning, monitoring and Evaluation beyond the PMBOK.

I have generic suggestions on Leadership . Pick up any of these books by Patrick Lencioni

1) The Five Dysfunctions of a Team
2) Silos, Politics and Turf Wars
3) The four obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive
4) The Five Temptations of a CEO
5) The ideal Team player
6) Death by Meeting

All these books are written as fables, very easy reads with powerful messages.

I would also recommend

The Drive by Daniel H Pink
And Leaders Eat Last (i am reading now) by Simon Sinek

I can recommend “Act like a Leader, Think like a Leader”, by Herminia Ibarra. This book is for new and seasoned leaders alike who need to understand the new rules for success in their own organization, and in the global business environment at large. It is a handy guidebook for anyone who wants to upgrade their role or be the leader their organization needs them to be.

This summer I will read a book that has collected great reviews “Nudge: Improving Decisions about health, wealth and happiness”, by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein. It is a book that intends to demonstrate how it is possible to design environments that make it more likely for us to act in our own interests.
