How to put in real practice?

Hello Project Community,

I hope you are all well on whatever today is you are reading this.

I am fully understanding of all of the knowledge that is given here and at PMI.org, and through the CAPM training documentation. However, is there actual real world applications for this? It seems that I come across nothing but negativity and "reasons" why management or worse our C-Level doesn't want these included. And I mean even the basics, like a high-level risk assessment or feasibility study before we invest time and money into a project.

"Lessons learned? Yea, if we learn to do the job right and there wont be an issue..."

What advise is out there on how to break through these barriers? Why is everyone seem to approach these as "wastes of time" or "busy work"?

Thank you all again for the above, I appreciate the support and the guidance!

Aaron,
Thank you for this, I have recently taken an interpersonal training to try to get more from my communication side. Like you have stated, this has started me thinking on new ways to approach these sticky topics.

As to simply doing, also agree, but then found the next slippery slope, give the mouse a cookie it will want a glass of milk. I must proceed carefully so that I don't get stuck in the, well you are already doing it and we don't understand, so can you just keep doing it?

I will put some new perspective on my approaches, and try to extract data more indirectly and or individually. Time can only tell what change will bring.

It's not unusual for less mature organizations to rely on personal efforts, rather than processes such as project management, to complete a project successfully.

Unfortunately, when the key people leave, they start looking for the next rock star. There is an impression that project management is just overhead and paper pushing.

Sometimes it's just not necessary that everyone sees the sausage making. I've had a number of PM's that I've coached who want to, in the spirit of transparency, expose project team members to the mechanics of creating a solution versus the solution itself. Keep things simple and pragmatic with the project team and stakeholders versus trying to show how complex the work is.
