You identify stakeholders at any point in time starting from the Initiation Phase. After you identify a Stakeholder, you add them to the Stakeholder register and analyize them.

David -

Remember that most PMBOK processes are iterative so you would end up cycling back through stakeholder analysis and implementing appropriate stakeholder engagement strategies so outputs such as your stakeholder registrr and communications management plan would get updated.

Agree with above comments. At any time during the project, new stakeholders may be identified. These will be added to the register with the appropriate information.

When a new stakeholder is identified, the first step is to add He/She to the stakeholder register.
Second step is to analyse the stakeholder using the power/interest grid which is a two dimensional evaluation system, with some limitations, the Salience model is another data analysis tool you can use in analyzing stakeholders, it introduces the concept of urgency and legitimacy . Lastly the 3 dimensional cube is a more sophisticated analysis technique it supports the mapping of stakeholders in terms of Interest (active or passive),Power (influential or insignificant ) and attitude (backer or blocker)

The essence of this analysis is to understand what their needs, expectations, interest, requirements or stakes are on the project so you can effectively engage and manage them to deliver the project objectives.

Thank you, how to explain this?

Midway through a project, the project manager identifies new stakeholders. Each of these new stakeholders plays a different project role. Why not option B(Review the stakeholder register) PMP Exam Midway through a project, the project manager identifies new stakeholders. Each of these new stakeholders plays a different project role. What should the project manager do first? Meet with the project sponsor to learn if new roles have been created. Review the stakeholder register. Submit a change request to the change control board (CCB). Update the stakeholder management plan. Solution: D Update the stakeholder management plan.

I use a salience-based stakeholder register such as the one found here:

Engage them! Learn about them and their expectations, enter this information on the stakeholder register. Find out how they want to be communicated with and add this information as well to your documentation. Keep them informed, engage them.

Thank you all so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it. I have been studying for the PMP Exam for almost a year now. I have invested in training courses online, read the PMBOK Guide and have studied very hard and intently for quite some time. With all the practice tests I have taken, I cannot seem to get over the 70 % hump. I seem to hover around 65-68%. The gaps in my knowledge seem to shift from Planning, to Executing and then to Monitoring & Controlling with each practice test. I have done my best to look for the trick questions, but nothing I do seems to work. Are there any specific suggestions you can give me to help me get to the next level?

Hi David,

The first and foremost thing to do is to update the stakeholder register as mentioned by Rami & Kiron. Update your communications plan adding the new stakeholder.

Hi all, I got this question:

Midway through a project, the project manager identifies new stakeholders. Each of these new stakeholders plays a different project role.

What should the project manager do first?

The correct optino for the system is: Update the stakeholder management plan.
My answer was: Review the stakeholder register. but is wrong.
Someone can Explain my why?
Thanks

HI, is the stakeholder register controlled document ( require change request) ? how can we change it? can we change it without changing the engagement plan in case of new stakeholders? What should we change fist: engagement plan and then register? In case we have new stakeholders. Many Thanks
