Whether you are aware or not, the cloud has already become a significant part of personal as well as professional life. There are many many use cases of cloud implementation resulting in cost-saving and quicker way to get things done. Also, the cloud is central to the convergence of new technologies like IoT, Robotics, AI, etc.
Have you found a PM-related area, which is yet to leverage the potential of cloud offerings and could reap great benefits in terms of cost, time & ease in near foreseeable future? How such plans will 'influence existing procedures' or, 'establish new practices' in the industry?
In a lighter note, it'll be great for a PM to have advance knowledge of the Expected Change Orders in the near term. Such an effort will require the deployment of means to collect necessary data for ML training and certain contract clauses with other parties to collect their data. In IT related projects the PM need a basic knowledge about cloud services to understand the impact not only in the financial but in the IT Proceses and culture. If your project is including cloud strategies you need to have a good expertice to understand how to move to the right direction with the team and address the impact. Cloud itsellf has benefits and need that you incorporate new practicess, guides and proceses to leverage that benefits in your project. I would argue that cloud-based storage is not a pre-requisite for new technology convergence. I have seen many on-premise implementations that are quite sophisticated in their use of new technology.
I also think that cloud-based technology is deemed a bit unsafe for professional environments, especially government departments.
In Canada, the federal government has "cloud" applications available for departments. These are applications hosted in government data centres, thus offering simplicity, timeliness and cost reductions for the client departments.

Stephane - Thanks for your input. Many organizations are still using on-premise infrastructure as it meets their specific business requirements.
Cloud computing, in general, has some advantages (like scalability, elasticity and easy access) over on-premise computing. This has enabled many organizations to engage in research and deployment of 'business-solutions' otherwise considered unviable.
I would said the Education Sector has yet to fully embrace the full potential of offerings by Cloud Service Providers. Although Universities and college have leveraged the benefits of the cloud to increase size of classes and diversity of classes and courses on offer this has yet to really take off the primary and secondary level schools and institutions of learning. As in a lot of countries attendance to education up to the age of sixteen is mandatory the potential growth in this sector is enormous, Also as developing and third world countries see education as a mechanism to bring people out of poverty there is also enormous potential for growth.

I found a few online training organizations are leveraging serverless computing model (FaaS solutions) to deploy their courses in a quick and inexpensive manner.

Maybe this is the model that Educational Institutions with limited resources will take. It is important that more developed economies contribute to the development of developing and third world economies as this is were the future growth is and educating these workforces have far reaching positive impact for the global economy.
