Questions about the Proper Use of PMI Trademarks

I have some questions that I sent to [email protected] & [email protected] a month ago, but haven't received any response. Does anyone know where I can get official and definitive answers?

Here are my questions:

I want to use the PMI trademarks appropriately, but I find what appear to be conflicting guidelines.

I have a licensing contract with PMI for the creation of my PMP® exam prep course.

Regarding the use of the registered symbol, the contract says that "the ® symbol shall be used whenever the Mark appears."

On the other hand, the PMI® Intellectual Property (IP) Guidelines for Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.s) Quick Reference Guide says that "the registered symbol must appear with the first instance of a registered mark" in printed materials, and "with the first instance of a registered mark on every page of a website."

Which guideline should I follow regarding the use of registered symbols? Is the REP guide a more complete explanation? (I hope so.)

Also, the REP quick reference guide says "Do not use a certification acronym alone as a noun, or pluralize the acronym." However, the pmi.org
website includes examples of this, such as:

"You can find PMPs leading projects in nearly every country and, unlike other certifications that focus on a particular geography or domain, the PMP® is truly global. As a PMP, you can work in virtually any industry, with any methodology and in any location." (https://www.pmi.org/certifications/types/project-management-pmp
)

Can I refer to someone with a PMP® certification as a PMP? Can I pluralize it as PMPs when referring to multiple PMP® certificate holders?

Also, the REP guide says that "for certifications (PMP, PMI-ACP, etc.), always use the certificate acronym as an adjective followed by the appropriate certification term." So "Get Your PMP®" is not OK? It would have to be "Get Your PMP® Certification"? Can I omit the "certification" in most instances if it's already clear from the page that it's a certification?

Please provide clarification.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric, those are great questions. Whoever will weigh their opinion will be from their point of view of interpreting things so to get a solid and precise answer, you need to go to the source itself which is PMI. Understand they have not responded to you so far but you probably should try to contact customer service and they will channel your request to the appropriate department.

I would be interested to know what they reply to you if you don’t my sharing as we could also benefit from this info,
