Hi,

I am a PMP certified. Very recently, I passed my Professional in Business Analysis (PBA) exam too. Now, I am thinking about moving ahead, either Program Management Professional (PgMP) or Risk Management Professional (RMP) first then PgMP.

Professionally, I am a chartered accountant (business background) with experience of leading and managing complex financial, audit and recently technology projects. I have unique interest in managing projects.

I know it totally depends on the career path I am following. Please advise me professionally.

Very good to see your plan for career progression.

Risk management is like a salt in a fully preared dish - not visibile, but integral part of any dish, cant be separated out. So project management or program management or any other management, Risk management is a knowledge area ingredient that you need to master.

I see 50% of RMP content is more of project management as Risk management is an integral part of project management. So in my view RMP is optional.

Considering your experience level and from your work description, I suggest that your next career progression can be PgMP, where it adds value to your work directly. Understanding and being proficient in program management is the need of the hour.

With services going around the world or products development is happening across the contintents and business environment is more uncertain and ambiguous. Industry revolution is happenig at a faster pace than ever. So program management is one of the essential skills for a senior management professionals.

So I suggest to go with PgMP. Let me know for any more information.

Congratulations on your successes. Certainly, both have merit, and both have value that can move your career forward. No one knows your business better than you and knows what area a particular designation will bolster for you and the organization.
Which do you feel would provide the greater value and why?

Risk Management is a domain by itself. Being in the accounting and financials industry, I assume that assessing Risks and Risks Management is an integral part of your job so at this level and point in time, RMP might be if greater benefit to you as opposed to program management. On the long run, you can think of doing the program management as well.

You have to understand the value of a PMI certification. As the word certification says, it is about acknowledging the set of knowledge, experience and skills in a given domain, that you bring to bear in your work.

I've been holding back going for my ACP because of that. Now that I have worked on an agile project for nearly two years, I am almost worthy of considering being recognized as an ACP.

I believe I know far beyond value of certification and what is expected of it. Yes, you did well, because you weren't meeting the requirement. You should have waited, no other way.

In my case, I know that I am meeting requirements. All I needed was a professional comment form others.
