I've been asked to take over a project when it goes live at the beginning of January. The current PM has been in place since the Design and Implementation phases. What info should I gather from this person to make this transition as smooth as possible? My responsiblities will be devising a support plan, tracking bugs and modifications and analyzing major modifications.

Interesting idea, changing horses at the finish line. Hopefully you can partner with the current project manager and slowly phase into the role. You will want to focus on all the road blocks that the current PM sees facing the implementation effort. Use the PM as your coach and guide. If they feel displaced, you might find yourself being sabbotaged. Better to have a trusted collegue here.

I had to hand over my project management, to join a higher prioritised project. We had just implemented Microsoft solution framework, and I splitted my role according to their team role. they are going live on Monday, and so far it seems to work.

Good Luck though.

Waiting for the time when I can finally say that this has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way.
