I've been asked to take over a project when it goes live at the beginning of January. The current PM has been in place since the Design and Implementation phases. What info should I gather from this person to make this transition as smooth as possible? Interesting idea, changing horses at the finish line. Hopefully you can partner with the current project manager and slowly phase into the role. You will want to focus on all the road blocks that the current PM sees facing the implementation effort. Use the PM as your coach and guide. I had to hand over my project management, to join a higher prioritised project. We had just implemented Microsoft solution framework, and I splitted my role according to their team role. they are going live on Monday, and so far it seems to work.
