If there is such a clause in contract, you may want to invoke same for whatever penalties otherwise you may just let go. In any case there has to be an incident report to determine the root cause. Saving Changes...
It depends on the magnitude of the incident, its impact to the organization and your project, your organization's procurement policies and the terms & conditions in the contract.
For example, some contracts might require the contractor to carry sufficient insurance to cover such mishaps in which case your vendor management team might choose to file a claim.

If contract clause says, we will give them a written warning with proof just after the incident to rectify the issue. Also, a notice to them by keeping our prejudice for recovery of loss from his payment.
Post work, we can settle the payment with reference to above mentioned warning and notice. Everybody will get time to estimate the damage and work completion. Saving Changes...
