Is the CAPM really worth it or is to better to wait until you have experience and then apply to take the PMP exam? I have a number of students who don't have the experience necessary for the PMP, but would still like to get certified in addition to the project management degree. Looking for pros and cons. Thanks in advance. Saving Changes...
CAPM is only a stepping stone but best is for the students to get a PMP. This is much more valued and helps them to cement the concepts clearly and execute projects well. Also this is well recognized and helps in career growth Saving Changes...
It would be worth waiting for the required experience and getting PMP rather than go through the ordeal (if I may say so) twice. Anyway, the students you are referring to have the basics in terms of Project Management degree, where I am sure they do teach the basics of Project Management. Saving Changes...
Your students have a degree in Project Management, that should get them in project management jobs. When they have the experience, they should go for the PMP.
CAPM is a junior title that is not transferable to PMP once you have the experience.
Just do it once Saving Changes...

Valerie,
I have recommended to my students to get experience and then pass the PMP to show the value of their PM know-how. CAPM does not show any actual strong PM value. Saving Changes...
