I'm curious how those who have earned the ACP will answer.
I thought the ACP was more designed for Agile project managers.

ACP has designed for people that can perform in different Agile based environments inside software product creation initiatives. To be honest, I do not remember if the PMI said that but when you study for the ACP you will find you need to get knowledge about the well knonwn available methods/frameworks plus general Agile knowledge.

Actually I think yes, ACP is a role, it won’t limit the potential of the person

Probably the same thing as what Scrum can do to a project manager.

It is not a matter of certification. What matters is the understanding of agile values, mindset and understanding of roles and way of working. Given this, an ACP certified person is generally not limited to play one of the scrum roles.

The certification, whether it be a ACP, CSM or PSM does not mean or guarantee one will be a good or bad Scrum Master. Just like having a driver's license does not guarantee you'll be a good driver. Mindset, training and experience go a lot further.

As someone who has been through all three, the PSM training will best position you for the start of your journey. The ACP does not cover the Scrum Master role in any depth. But the PSM is just a start and up to the student if they want to continue that journey and grow their skills.

Dear Gongyuan
Interesting your question
Thanks for sharing

In addition to Scrum you can use other methodologies, techniques and tools

ACP is Agile Certified Practitioner and NOT project manager. Any one who has worked within an agile team can apply for it.

As a result of the DA acquisition by PMI, there is one current and one planned certification focusing on agile lead roles. The currently available DALSM (Lean Scrum Master) would be a good upgrade for someone who only has Scrum-centric knowledge and credentials. Later on this year they were planning to add a DALPM (Lean Project Manager) but exact launch dates, prerequisites and so on are still TBD.

I firmly believe PMI began to confuse the market but which is more sad to me began to break DA. Just my personal believe, no more than that.

If an only if she/he has a clear understanding about what a Scrum Master is. The definition of Scrum Master is inside the Scrum Guide. All other things are interpretation. Just taking about me, I have the PMI-ACP and I performs as Scrum Master and Scrum Master trainner and coach mainly in my actual work place to give people advaice on Scrum utilization due to I worked with Scrum from the very begining of its creation (by the way, if you look at the old versions of Scrum you will surprise).
