In a digital era, project managers are called to enhance and acquire new skills that will help them manage transformation projects in support of new digital technologies. What skill set and competencies do you think project managers should have? How do you suggest them to acquire these skills and competencies? What role has ethics in these transformative times?

Project managers should control the skills that are needed for effective project management as a function of their education level. The constraints on digital technologies must be communicated among the project staff team. Ethics has a major role to determine the results of project activities in the organization handling a project(s) for the customer and for the customer, as well, when dictating the goals of a set of project procedures.

There are not new skills to acquire. Project managers needs the same skills than for other type of projects. The problem is, in my opinion, project managers who do not understand that the focus is solution, not the project. Those project managers usually did not do a key activity that must be to run before they are formally asigned: elicitation. Project managers must be ready to interact with cross functional teams then they have to understand all related to the domain where they will be assigned to the solution. Nothing new below the sun.

Digital transformation projects often have a significant effect on the job roles of the people using the transformed system. Change by nature makes people uncomfortable, and an expert user in the old system becomes a novice in the new one, or at least that may be their perception. People skills dealing with times of major change are especially important as some of your major stakeholders (the users) may be resistant as they see your project as a major disruption to their careers.
