There are not new skills to acquire. Project managers needs the same skills than for other type of projects. The problem is, in my opinion, project managers who do not understand that the focus is solution, not the project. Those project managers usually did not do a key activity that must be to run before they are formally asigned: elicitation. Digital transformation projects often have a significant effect on the job roles of the people using the transformed system. Change by nature makes people uncomfortable, and an expert user in the old system becomes a novice in the new one, or at least that may be their perception. People skills dealing with times of major change are especially important as some of your major stakeholders (the users) may be resistant as they see your project as a major disruption to their careers.
