I read from another topic, financial issue is a consideration for certificates.
That leads me to this question.

To me, a failure in the exam means 100% no.
A pass in exam leads to the chance, depends on whether you can justify it or not. If you are able to show the relation between the certificate and your current job, it’s probably a green light.

I have been to places where they will pay for the training, but not the exam.

I find it funny, that on some position they required it, but don't pay for renewal.
Actually, it makes sense to me, Vincent. If its a mandatory requirement for the job, it is not treated as personal development but a pre-requisite. The employee has to obtain and maintain the certification as part of the employment contract.

A good organization that values their employees will invest in their development. I have seen where they will pay for college course and career related training but not career related certifications. I was able to get them to pay for the PMP exam (first attempt) and online training course. Others in my organization took week long boot camps - twice in some cases.

Despite our guiding principles as to support all employees in their continuing education in personal and job-related aspects I had no sponsoring whatsoever for my PMP exam. Even my request to use my company PC at lunchtime breaks to view learning videos was rejected.
But that is OK. PM is not very popular in my agency. So in the end it was my private pleasure.

I nominated PMP classroom training course in my yearly Training allowance at my workplace and it got approved .

I paid for the exam myself and claimed whatever educational materials , books, exam fees that i had to pay out of pocket through tax returns.

The company I work in provided a training course for Contact hours that encouraged us to prepare and take the PMP exam.

After months of preparation and passing the exam I shared my achievement with management and requested a reimbursement for the exam fee, but my request was denied.

Since I did the certification on my own and it was not a requirement from the company I was not sponsored, but it would be sponsored if it was a requirement.

Anyways I am happy that I have achieved a milestone in my career by getting a PMP.

My previous employer sponsored my PMP. I think all companies should have a set allowance for development for all employees to help everyone stay relevant.
