What is a suitable software for the "Project Management"?

Cloud base technology apps provided the chance of fast communication among the individuals within an organization. For the projects as well, team members prefer to be connected via these applications. They are able to create tasks, assign it to themselves or others. They are also able to tie the interrelated tasks.
However, the flexibility which facilitated by MS project or Primavera are not available in most of the a.m. software. Further, resource management capability (leveling, smoothing, etc.) are not provided here.
On the other side, MSP or Primavera are not suitable for team wide communication. not very easy to be used by everyone.
Clearly, these are two different groups of software and can not be compared, or interchanged. However, company needs of integrated tools are inevitable.
I'd like to request all to share their experiences in this regard. Definitely, this will be useful for all project managers cause they may have already had this challenge.

You summed up my experience pretty well. MSP is a great tool for me as a PM, but it's difficult to communicate that level of project detail to others on the team. Some tools are better at collaboration but lack the sophistication that project managers know we can get.

I struck a nice balance with SmartSheet. It wasn't nearly as powerful as MSP, but if communication is most of our job, then I'm willing to trade a degree of functionality for a measure of collaboration.

It depends on the project and the team, though. If I can get a co-located team, then my favorite tool is still a set of sticky notes.

SmartSheets is what I use as well. I find the collaboration aspects fantastic. The only drawback to using something that is cloud based is something we discovered a few weeks ago. The smartsheets website went down and we did not have access to any of our projects for an entire day. You can imagine what a nightmare that became. I will be watching this thread with interest.

Thank you Wade for sharing this information.

Do you have experience with ASANA, Target Process, Wrike, Zoho, Monday, etc. Or, have you seen any report/survey on them?

By the way, when using SmartSheet, could you put aside MSP, or still you needed that?

How do you manage your schedule and budget with SharePoint and Team? (SharePoint is useful if you can stay away from using it as document storage only.)

I worked in a PgMO where we used Microsoft Project Server. It offered the right blend of tools for project managers and team members.

Oracle Primavera Cloud should fill the gap. The power of P6 with workflow, risk management, integration, strategic alignment, resource management, portfolio analysis, etc. I can see it become the tool of choice in the near future. Setting up the tool requires some skills but once the system configuration is complete, everything is easy.
