I am looking assistance or pointers with my dissertation. I have come with two research option topics:

Option 1: Evaluating the Risk Associated with the Management of Engineering Projects. A case study in the manufacturing industry.
The aim of this research will be towards the exploration of the factors that challenges the effectiveness of engineering projects.

The challenges in the form of extended budget, technical flaw, and reduced quality will be evaluated in this research project.

Option 2: Critical Evaluation of the Role of Quality in Engineering Projects

Since the quality is considered to be as one important dimension among the three fundamental characteristics of a project in the form time, quality and cost. Therefore, following research will be essential in further evaluating the factors and causes that drive quality of a project.

Extended budget (scope creep, forms of contract, interface gaps),

Any help of recent primary and secondary sources or case studies will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

The Hubble Space Telescope story fits both of those well as one case study. It deals with handling risk when there is conflicting quality data. I did an extensive analysis of it as part of my own MS capstone (practical projects in lieu of a dissertation), and despite a 40+ page write-up, I found it a very interesting subject.
