It is still in use. I think there are hybrids of it employed on a lot of levels though. Six Sigma/Lean Six Sigma is still out there. What types of projects largely determine the best course of approach.

I agree. It totally depends on the type of project. Though, I think agile is most common in the tech sector.

Agile is not a methodology. What you will find are methods based on Agile.

An organization can develop a set of methods which incorporate agile values and principles.

As such there are infinite possible methods based on agile.

PRINCE2 is another set of methods which covers both adaptive and predictive lifecycles.

Agile is always there because it is not a methodology but a mindset. Sometimes it’s there in its pure form, sometimes as a Hybrid with predictive approaches. Under Agile falls many frameworks like Scrum, Extreme Programming, DSDM and others.

Like Kiron said, PRINCE 2 and PRINCE 2 Agile are for project management in controlled environment that is widely used in UK.

Josh,

Our colleagues above have provided some excellent insight to your question. My question back to you is why do you ask? What business situation prompted you to ask this question?

The keywords about Agile as Kiron pointed out are values and principles. That is what Agile is: A set of values and principles.

When the term methodology is used, it is about a strategy that employs specific methods to be used. And that is not what Agile is.

I think if an organization is working on multiple projests the using agile methodology or others should be implemented to become productive.

The problem is Agile demands a transformation. Lot of people talk about it without understand what is the thing to transform. The thing to transform is the whole enterprise architecture which is componsed by business, application, technology, information and security layers. Do you need to discard the actual siloe based architecture? Not at all. What you need to to integrate it in horizontal way.

Agile is current nowadays with Scrum, Kanban, Lean Techniques. Other enterprises choose to use hybrid methods, combinating agile with cascade form.

Hybrid makes sense as Project Managers can best choose a mix of methodology with the project needs.

You put on the table a great point. Lean and Agile are totally different things in the basement and because of that it is impossible to mix them except that the only thing organizations can use from Lean as a tool is the set of principles. Kanban is a whole method but people thing is kanban board. Kanban is used from long time before in any type of environment for example manufacturing.
