PMI conducts 8 certifications out of which 7 are professional/practitioner and one is certified associate. Any idea as to how many people hold all 7 Professional/Practitioner certifications? Saving Changes...

I personally know of 5 people who do hold all 7 certifications but do not know the exact number and do not think this number is available for public.
On another note, I also know of people who have all 8 certificates.
Maybe with you and I next year, we will increase the count of the members holding all 7 certifications and I am thinking afterwards to take the CAPM just to revalidate and refresh my PMBOK. I know of a few people who did that.

Interesting question, maybe PMI will make it public.
It would also be interesting to know some breakdown for 6, 5, 4,3.
How many have PMP plus a specialized one like SP...?
How many have just a specialized certification, no PMP?
All 7 would really be interesting. Saving Changes...
What I don't understand - why people collect certifications?
Sir why do you hold PMP?(If I may ask?) Saving Changes...

Dear Bharatkumar
Interesting your question
Thanks for sharing
I confess I was surprised by the question
For me the most important thing is the journey (learning) and not the destination (certificates)
It never crossed my mind that there were people collecting certificates :-)

Exactly. So why do you infer others are collecting certificates. Everybody has a different path and hence different ways to go through that path.Just because someone has more than one certification does not mean that they are collecting and if someone has one they are on a journey.

Collecting Certificates ? Do you really think this is what Bharat meant ?
This statement very much undermines the effort whether it is time or money that professionals spend on their professional development. This is called Professional Development. It makes me really surprised knowing that professionals like yourself call this Collecting Certificates as if we are in a cherry picking farm !

I took PMP exam mostly for promoting PMI and its PMP certification in my country. At that time PMP was the only PMI certification.
But I think that one (PMP) is enough in any case.
For PMI creating new and new certifications is a profitable business, but I am not sure that passing one more certification exam adds any value.
For me PMI certification means that the person knows PM terminology and PMBOK Guide content, nothing else.

It depends upon the role one is playing in the organisation. I do not think that only one certification PMP is good. If that would have been the case PMI would not have introduced other certifications.
I also personally feel that certifications are the by products of one's journey. Whether it is one certification or many it does not matter since everyone has different paths to charter. Only when one tries to walk that path one would realize the difference in certifications.

Dear Bharatkumar
People who have many certificates can answer your question better than me, "Why so many certifications?"
You can even do a study on the subject: "What leads people to have so many certifications? The knowledge gained (journey) or the certificates obtained? (Destiny)"
We agree with: "Each one chooses his own way" and the best attitude is to accept, respect and value the way each one chooses for himself.

I have nothing against having many certifications, I just don't understand why people spend time and money to get more and more certifications. What does it prove?
I understand that one (PMP) verifies that you know PMI terminology and understand ANSI standard (PMBOK Guide). It may be required at certain jobs. Why others?
