What percentage should be used for a project managers allocation to a typical project? (just a baseline)

Project Manager 100%

If it was a program manager/director managing multiple projects then you should split the % across the projects. Not necessarily evenly - it would depend on size, complexity, etc.

The question was also posted back in July 2008. see http://www.gantthead.com/discussions/discu...er.cfm?ID=12303

A pm time equals appr between 10-15% of the time allocated to the other team members.

When projects increase it is often said a full time project manager will do however if projects increase the overhead increases. PM allocation should in those case go up to 20 or in some cases 25%. dependent on the complexity and the size of the project. Also the experience of the pm whas its influence.

Another thiing to keep in mind is where you want to allocate meeting time for the team (not discussing content but progress and status)
Will this pm time or is this absorbed in the other activities.

Hopes this helps

Hans
