I agree every project is unique and presents its own sets of challenges. Over-all, I would suggest that communication can solve most types of challenges. For instance when we think there is a scheduling crisis, if we talk with the customer directly, we sometimes find that the customer is fine with a schedule change and that it was internal stakeholders that were panicking and driving an impossible schedule afraid to talk with the client.
Hi Kimberly, I fully agree with you. Communication is crucial but at the same time, we have to recognize that stakeholders often are the problem. But we need them to achieve project. Thank you so much for sharing.

I've found that communication tends to cause the most issues. An awkwardly written email can generate numerous back-and-forth messages before understanding is achieved. Speaking to the wrong stakeholders can cause delays in getting answers to critical questions. Not putting updates out in a timely manner can affect circumstances that require immediate action. There are a myriad of things that can go wrong if communication isn't planned for and managed properly.
Thank you so much William for sharing. We agree and confirm that communication is key. Without a good communication in both strategy and current practice, no project is viable.

Each project is unique. So complexity differs from project to project, depends on the skill level of the project manager and also maturity of the organisation, the support it gets from the senior management.

However, at a thousand feet level, if at alI I have to classify a knowledge area over the other, then Risk management would be tricky.. Especially considering how you are gonig to quantify the risks, having equal focus on both opportunity as well as threat and it is an underlying principle for the whole project.
Hi Harish, I love when you say that each project is unique and the level of complexity depends largely of the project manager, the maturity of the organization and the support it requires. Thank you so much for sharing.

People and their Egos are the worst to handle in projects. You may have covered all your bases and communicated to the Nth degree but do not be the least bit surprised if a key stakeholder walks up-to you or emails you and says that they knew nothing about your project or their requirements were not accounted for in the product.

Absolutely agree with you Deepesh. I emphasized that in two of my posts titled: "The evil side of resource management" and "The risky behavior of unfaithful stakeholders" all under my blog: The stubborn Project Manager.

Hi Shadav, very well said: you can please some of the people all of the time. You can please all of the people some of the time. But you can't please all of the people all of the time. I love that very much and I still believe that the most valuable of all things is to get the job done. Thank you very much Shadav for sharing.

People and Communication. Top two challenges. Like everyone else said. It isn't easy to work with different people, we are all unique and each project is unique. As much as we want the communication to be the weapon to pass through the challenges, efficient communication does not happen either. That makes the PM's job the hardest.
