The project management institute purchased the Discipline Agile, Why this framework and not other agile methodologie

Do you think this was for the sake of market opportunity?

What do you think are the advantages of choosing Discipline Agile over other methodologies?

What value do you think this will bring to PMI in the future?

Dear Alexandre
We live increasingly in unstable, rapidly changing environments and therefore difficult to predict.
PMI proposes predictive, adaptive and incremental development approaches based on the projects and organizations promoting them.

I can see this being a financial decision - possibly more membership fees. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Disciplined Agile certifications. Will PMI have new offerings???

I'm interested to see how it works out and to learn more about DA.

Alexandre -

I wrote about this in my blog article this week (https://www.projectmanagement.com/blog-pos...ade-in-Heaven), but the rationale in going with DA vs. any other agile method is that DA is the most pragmatic & flexible of the frameworks out there. It is not a methodology, but provides a team with the decision making framework to tailor their practices to fit the needs of a given project.

I've covered your first & third questions in my article :-)

Agree with your comment. I recently wrote a brief comparing a framework approach instead of prescribed methodologies (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/chasing-pro...-yousaf-khan/). DAD is the most flexible framework currently available providing PMs the full breadth of tools needed to finish the job.

With the convergence in the PMBOK 6 of predictive and agile to some extent, we can expect that DAD will influence PMBOK 7 development and offer more fluid delivery models in the future, and PMI is staying at the forefront of this developing trend.

Apart from that Disciplined Agile also recognizes clear roles for Project Manager, Technical Coordinator, Business Analyst, Business Sponsor , Solution Tester .

These roles are not as clear in Scrum. there is the product owner , scrum master and the Scrum Team.

I can see how the approach can be incremental , iterative and embrace the discipline and structured Project Management to still deliver definite business benefits in iterations or increments

There are many different flavours of the application of the agile methodology, Discipline Agile being one of them. I think that the answer may be in the name as even though a project manager needs to be agile in approach maintaining discipline regarding actual requirements being delivered, vendor management, team management and control management requires discipline and self confidence and avoiding influence from external factors.

I'm very interested if they will say something in the upcoming PMI GC 19 in Philadelphia related to this topic.

In the meantime, keeping an eye open in a few forums like this.
