Global Single Instances

Hi folks
I wonder how much energy there is still around the subject of global (or regional) single instances these days. I have started publishing a series of posts on the subject at my corporate blog - for example was on the subject of Multilingual

In a discussion with a former colleague I concluded that the capability of the technical infrastructure (hardware/software) to support global businesses on a single instance far outstrips our social ability to manage the project to implement the system.
Thoughts?
