I believe there is a standard of the amount of experience in the domain in order to sit for these exams. I will be pursuing certification.

As a PM, you should have sufficient domain knowledge to be effective, but unless you wish to specialize in this area I'd think a course or two rather than a certification would be a good start followed by interviewing a few PMs who have managed a number of such projects to understand specific nuances about the domain.

It is not compulsory, an expert is one who knows when to bring in other experts-Cyber security experts for their judgment on certain matters as emphasized in the PMBOK6 framework. However, if you feel, you will be handling security projects for the next 5 years, I may want to recommend a certification. From my experience as a PM, having ideas about certain areas have assisted me to better understand the severity of certain risks and quality metrics on the project. I have done couples of security projects.

I have done training on CEHv8 and V10. It is also a matter of interest and your background, I have a technical background.

@Vishwanathan

I am running Cyber Security program myself . I am aware of the NIST Standards and The Australian Signals Directorate 8 standards . I don't have any security specific certifications and don't feel the need to as I have an Enterprise Security Architect as the Technical Lead :) helps to have Technical Experts in the project team while I just focus on running the project as a Project Manager.

I am sorry to say but ground realities is different here.

HR teams and Recruiter agencies ask for particular certification like CISM or others etc., in spite of it how excellent you are in Project Management and have deep knowledge of that particular field.

That may be a function of a significant supply of talent relative to the number of positions. Hiring managers want the perfect candidate but will settle for a good one if market conditions dictate.

I would argue that someone could focus on honing their PM skills or their cybersecurity technical skills but probably not do a great job at doing both...

I picked up IT security knowledge throughout my career. I know enough to be effective in managing that aspect in a project.

I am interested in picking up an IT security certification. This would be to work as an IT security specialist, not an IT security project management (if there is such a thing).

Not at all. I was in charge of the hugh program related to the matter that my actual company started time ago. What you can not forget is you have to take knowledge (not being a subject matter expert) on the matter to work with subject matter experts. But is the same for any type of project/program.
