Multiple chapter memberships?

Dear colleagues,

I British but I am based in Japan and I recently joined up with the PMI Japan Chapter. The company that I work for has its head office in the US so I am quite a spread out person.

Is it possible or even advisable to join up with chapters that are outside of where I am geographically based? Do any of my seniors have any experience with this?
