A new PMI branding.. Are you in favor of the new logo?

PMI, and ProjectManagement.com, introduced a new logo at the PMI Global Conference this weekend. What was wrong with the old design? It was a solid standard and easily recognizable.

I am not a fan of the new logo, (yet) but I could warm up to it. So I ask you, the community, to help sell me on this change.

What are your thoughts on the re-design?

I am a fan! It's very whimsical and fun. For professional items, I would use the old version; however, one of the tasks I am assigned to with my local chapter is to entice younger PMs to join. This will be very helpful with digital and printed flyers.

May be current times require such a re-branding that PMI has gone through. Let me list the areas that they are looking to work at with this new rebranding and Logo -

1. Collaboration, 2. Innovation 3. Growth 4. Determination 5. Teamwork 6. Vision 7. Change 8. Outcome 9. Community.

I wish I could post two pics here...but I cannot, but may be wait for PMI to explain the images and logo

It's not a matter of how receptive you are to the new logo as time will smooth that out. After all, is anybody really going somewhere else just because the PMI icon changed?

But I will say that there appears to have been minimal attempt in change management in order to smooth the current members with this branding change. No doubt that this change was one that you could not notice. But the logo symbolism of collaboration, community, determination and change is not immediately understood. It needs explaining. And that set the stage for a more than mixed reaction. (But perhaps that was a conscious decision to get members to dig into it and generate some buzz.)

But this is 'just a logo'. My guess is that this is a harbinger of some substantive changes in the next few years to certification content and certification knowledge. Time will tell!

Bottom line: PMI is currently rebranding itself with an eye on new members.

You have enlightened me; I didn't recognize the "M" at all. I thought it was just a symbol.

I like the new colors, it is a much brighter appearance, but agree, that the logo is a little confusing. if someone wouldn't have told me the symbols were the letters, I would have never known.

Does not look like the logo for a Worldwide Professional Organization that is staffed by mostly volunteers. I wouldn't know what it was, if I only saw the logo. The M looks like a butterfly. This will cost considerable money to rebrand the chapters artifacts. Last time the logo was mandated to be changed, it took over year to get approvals. I know I sound like a very negative person, haha. I am not. Just not a fan of this logo.

Yeah, I didn't realize the "M" or the "I" were even letters. I was very confused by what they were supposed to represent. I'll be honest, I'm still having a hard time seeing "PMI" in the logo, even after it's been explained to me. I feel like "that guy" at an art museum that's still trying to understand a painting after everyone else has moved on.

What is that 3rd Infantry Division patch supposed to represent?

I like the new logo. I think it's doing exactly what it is meant to do: get people talking.

I am a lesser fan of a couple of changes made to the web site. The new member page no longer show up (it's still there but doesn't work) and the links stay the same typeface and colour after being clicked.
