Hi Dina,
In my opinion, the design thinking mindset can provide value to a project manager, from the point of view that it is a “process for innovation.” This is based on the metaphor that a project manager sculpts (i.e., models) projects for a living, which by its nature requires one to leverage approaches associated with the design thinking process. It is also applicable from a “problem solving” perspective as well.
The basic principle of design thinking suites very well for Project Management. Saving Changes...

Design Thinking is another perspective on project management. Both are concerned about finding solutions to problems, creating security about the future (thus reducing fear), and engaging stakeholders (users).
Design thinking techniques can be used in a project and project management techniques can be used in design thinking exercises. Saving Changes...
Design thinking is a mindset change more than just a new set of practices or tools. It can be applied to anything from solving a particular project issue, to helping a team come up with a project
solution to a business problem.
Embraced appropriately, it can be the difference between a project which has a successful outcome and one which delivered approved scope but missed the mark. Saving Changes...
In my mind, it is systems engineering applied to people.
When engineering principles are applied to products, they are often considered with respect to the thing itself, and not as much the people interacting with the thing. When a system is considered in totality, often people play an intrinsic role in the function of the system. When you change the frame of reference from the thing, to the people processes and tools developing the thing, you get project management.
Design thinking to me simply acknowledges that people are part of the system of interest, however the needs, values, attributes, etc. that make something better or worst from a human perspective tend to be different, and generally more abstract than electronic or mechanical devices. Insightful question!
Hi all.
Dina, I agreed with George. Saving Changes...
Thanks everyone for their input . I have noticed that design thinking could help with stakeholder engagement because when you empathize with them and you see their point of view then communication gets better and eventually that help in defining the real pain that end users are facing . Design Thinking is not new. People are using desing thinking from long time ago including it before it took the name "design thining". Design thinking is a tool, no more than that. So, you can use design thinking in your current life which mean you can use design thinking in all related to project management. Just to comment: if you are not the business analyst you are not in charge to define the product, you are in charge to define the project from the product definition. Saving Changes...

Dear Sergio We absolutely agree A few years ago they called it creativity techniques. One of the people who contributed to the development of lateral thinking was Eduard de Bono Your famous proposal of the 6 hats http://www.debonogroup.com/six_thinking_hats.php The project development approach and planning can be well used. Also in execution, to solve certain problems it may be interesting to use design thinking Saving Changes...
"It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars and so on -- whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man -- for precisely the same reasons."
