I have a great PMI Chapter in my area - Great Lakes in Michigan; however, all the PMPs are generally in IT or construction. I am a Legal Projects Manager seeking to connect with other PMPs who work in law firms, legal departments, or alternative legal services providers to discuss project management issues specific to legal projects. Are there any 'communities of practice' like this within PMI?

Pamela -

have you explored the ILTA project management track? I realize ILTA focuses on technology for the legal industry, but the PMs I met in the past who contributed actively to that community were also engaged on non-technology projects including application of PM principles to handling legal matters.

Dear Pamela
Sometimes it's just a paradigm shift.
Have you considered treating each court case as a project?
If so, you can apply project management processes to your case management?

If "get down to business" will still make history

Pamela. I have worked in that domain in the past. I do not know if that could be useful for you. Let me know. My recommendation is to put your questions and concerns here. I can answer those and I think it could be useful to maintain the interchange here to get valuable comments for others.

Great. One topic I have is division of labor between attorney and non-attorney (paralegal and other) for legal projects. I'm interested to see strategies PM's are employing to shift tasks successfully from attorney's to non-attorneys on legal projects without increasing risk.

One difference I've been seeing is in what is acceptable to the courts in different countries in terms of how legal activities are accomplished - especially if technology is used for some tasks.
