I'm in the path to present 2nd chance PMP exam but feel some frustrated because now that I'm doing simulators, it seems like I'm keeping the same level, average 55% a 60%. What do you recommend. Exam is scheduled to Nov 29th.

In the first chance I was almost in the below the target Rank.

Thanks in advance

Hello Martin,

Sorry to hear about your failing in first attempt, but that does, happen to a lot of the aspirants.
Great to see not giving up and going for a second try. Bravo!

But you really need to improve your results to get prepared well and to assure that you do not need a third try.

Well, how can you improve results?
You already got some great tips.
Let me add just that:
From what i know so far i would recommend you strongly to analyze your results deeply and very thouroughly ... and not alone the wrong answers but also the ones, you got right.
It will help you to understand why you got them right ( sometimes it might be just luck ... ). And that will help you for future questikns too.
How can you analyze your results in that way?
Well, I do always recommend the aspirants to utilize a well selected proffesional online exam simulator, which will provide you the needed tools.
In fact it,is also very important to choose the right learnjng materials like sample questions and mock exams. The most free available stuff out there is either outdated or often just wrong and missleading.

If I where you, I would also postpone the exam date for another 30 to 60 days, take the time you need to prepare well and get the confidence you need and then go for it.

If you want me to provide you even more guidance and tips, please send me a message and I will be glad to support you.

Best of luck,

Markus

I recommend the following:

1- Assess your first attempt results and concentrate on the items were you scored low and need improvement.

2- Do some simulation exams that are specific to the areas were you scored low.

3- Do simulation exams with 200 Questions. A score of 75% or above would imply you are ready for the exam.

I suggest the following resources for simulation exams:

1- RMC Fast Track
2- PM PrepCast
3- Watermark Learning

Hope this helps - Good Luck.

Martin,

Everyone learns differently and there are some very good suggestions here. For me, this is what worked. I used PmPrepCast and took the learning exams of 25 - 30 questions at a time. PmCast gives you the data to target your weak areas and I would then focus on those areas where I needed work, be it Knowledge Areas, Process Groups, ITTOs, etc.

The key for me was reading the logic behind why I got a question wrong, then going back and reading the section in the PMBOK. About 7 days prior to my exam, I completed 4 full exams. My first full exam was an 82, so I felt good, but then went down to 65 on the 2nd full exam. Again, for every question I got wrong, I read the logic on why the question I choose was wrong and why the correct answer was the one I should have chosen. It worked well for me.

Good luck!

I’m a big fan of digital flash cards. I’ve been using the Anki flash card program for a number of years for language study and I also used it for my PMP preparation,

If you are using exam simulators you may come across versions that explain the correct answers after the questions in study mode. If you get a question right and you are confident then move on, but if you get the answer wrong then make a flash card with the question on the front and the solution and explanation on the back.

Most exam simulator I’ve come across pull from pools of around 1000 questions so if you take a 200 question practice exam 5 times you are probably going to see all the questions. By using flash cards to learn where you went wrong you can build up your knowledge and skills and eventually end up totally smashing the exam simulator.

After that I’d recommend trying a second exam simulator with a different question pool to make sure you didn’t just learn the question pool and have actually built up transferable knowledge.

Good luck!

Hi Martin,

I just took the PMP again on 10/12; my scores were in the 64-70% on the mock exams. My approach, after taking three of these, was to go back and understand why I missed those questions. Understanding what outputs become inputs and why of the processes was key.

I must have written out 200 flash cards, and many pages of notes. It worked! I think if you understand the why, you will be fine.
