Thank you for participating in this reflection and for the question.

I consider him to be right.

This reality might impact our life positively (If we used AI wisely) or negatively if the use of AI got out of control so I don’t know at this point, we shall wait and see.

Its very hard to program emotion/empathy/reasoning and that is where humans, in my opinion, will always have better decision making than machines. Obviously there are many ways that AI can be implemented to better the world, but the point Brad Smith is making is a valid one.

Imagine a world where AI is the only option in a certain scenario. Take driverless cars - sure, they can start, go, stop, turn and react to pre-programmed learning paths. In reality, if one of these vehicles were to be heading directly towards another car, with a line of children to the left and nuns to the right, what decision would it take and why? I know this is a rediculous scenario, as a human would also have to decide, but this is where emotional knowledge would play a part and a possible solution based on feelings could make a difference.

Is it so hard to program emotion / empathy / reasoning?

There are reputed neuroscientists worldwide have been working on this for over 20 years
