Not sure where you are after. Normally the value of a project is written in the business case in terms of business benefits quantified in money

Few examples of value generation from IT projects are :

(1) % increase in customer profit margin from the executed IT project.
(2) Lessons Learned/Knowledge gained and utilized in future projects.
(3) New client or more business from same client due to successful execution of a project.

There could be many more based on objectives of the project.

Value for a project is strong related to the business case, if this project delivery what company is waiting for according the the business cases so project delivered valued, doenst matter if it is over budget or under scoop creep, what really matters is the results has to be directed attained to the business case.

In my opinión, value = client expectation.
Sometimes clients do not include all expectation in written documents ,sometimes there are much more points tratt could add value to the projects and clients have no thought in before.these las points might build a stronger relationship between you and clients...
