Can't join webinar bc extension is blocked

How can I use the desktop client to participate in on-demand webinars?

I would like be able to participate in the on-demand webinars but my company's IT department has blocked the installation of the Cisco WebEx extension. Likely due to the fact that it can read data from any website I visit! I have the desktop client so I tried to paste in the numeric part of the webinar URL into the "meeting information" field in the desktop client but it does not work.

How can we do this? Surely I can't be the only one who has this problem.

Dear Jared
Interesting your question
Thanks for sharing

What alternative solutions do you propose to attend online conferences?

Hi Jared - Our on-demand webinars are hosted directly on ProjectManagement.com and don't require WebEx to view. Are you referring to the live webinars? If so, the only way to log in to our webinars is through your ProjectManagement.com account, you cannot use the stand alone WebEx client on a PC to join. You may try to use WebEx on your phone/tablet, however, we don't fully support that option and it may cause some issues with PDU reporting. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to Customer Care at [email protected] and someone will assist you!

Heather, don’t you mention once that you will be supporting Webex on phone and tablet soon ? Are you still considering this ?

Trying to get around your company's security protocol could potentially land you in a lot of trouble. My employer blocks access to certain sites just based on keywords, like news articles involving wikileaks. If I want to visit the site, I use a personal device rather than my employer's system.

@keith, yes. I agree. I understand that it is the Chrome extension which they have an issue with, not the standalone client - as the standalone client does not have access to my browsing history. That's an interesting point about personal devices.

@heather perhaps Sorry, yes it was a live webinar. That's sad bc now I cannot watch live webinars. I imagine other companies would have security postures similar to mine and the requirement to use the WebEx chrome extension puts people who value security at a disadvantage. At this day in age, security is on everyone's mind and it would be great if PMI would offer us an alternative way to view these webinars as this is a valid use case.

Hi Rami - Yes, at one point we thought it would be possible, however, there are technical limitations that we didn't anticipate. It is possible to use a phone/tablet, however, it is not reliable and with the technical limitations there are issues with PDUs being recorded correctly, so we don't advertise it as a method that is supported.

Hi Heather, thanks for your attention to this. Besides using the browser extension, and the unsupported mobile option, is there an option for people who are unable to use the browser extension?

Hi Jared - The only other option is to use a non-corporate network/computer which won't have the restrictions in place.
