You are right, its not easy for PMs to keep updated with rapid changes in technology, in these situation it is very important for PMs to hire the resources carefully so that his own gaps with changing technology can be filled with very dynamic technical specialists or architects in their team Saving Changes...

I am finding that there are too many disparate "gadgets" to enable the PM to work efficiently. RAID Logs have become a UK norm but in them it is all manual input / output if they are not developed well at the outset.
Online tools can be found to be better as they have reporting software behind them but then there are issues with in house tool integration (such as Finance).
I posted a similar query on IT Toolbox but I have had not responses
Automated and integrated gadgets I believe can make the PM's life less busy/duplicated but I have yet to see this in practice with any system/product/tools I have used to date. Saving Changes...

As this thread is about two years outdated, I thought I would put a recap on what has already been discussed.
Yes, technology not only aids project managers today, but provides them with a tool that they can hardly manage without. I'm talking about work management software, where every type of work (from IT to marketing to development) at any type of scale (from task to project to program to company) is managed via one online social interface like Facebook.
Because all documents, work history, and even such things as time reporting and portfolio management can be stored in a centralized web-based location (i.e. cloud), companies can view their business as a whole or in parts from any device with access to the internet.
The implications of this are huge. Say a project manager was working on the international expansion of his company, for example. Well, if the internet reaches all the way around the world at a nearly instantaneous speed, then I'd say this technology definitely aids project managers.
There are many resources for this technology but one such example that I use is the work management software by AtTask. Saving Changes...
