PlanView has found a way to make IT successful throughout organizations, not just in IT departments. It starts with managing resources at the heart of the organization -- and how better to do that, than through PSA.

Hi Scott,
Many support organizations within companies are trying to position themselves as internal consulting groups. Some companies are going so far as to force them into this role.
Let's say that we have an organization that wants to transition into a strategic partner. What advantages are there to utilizing a PSA, rather than combining the capabilities of existing software like spreadsheets, discussion databases, email, etc.? Saving Changes...
Thank you for the posting and I agree with your assertion. Many internal support organizations are being "asked" to operate as an independent business partner and in many cases must compete for "internal" business against external support groups vying for the same piece of the pie. This makes for interesting and some time heated discussions around the water cooler.
With this in mind, internal support groups are being forced to analyze how they function and how they can best provide value to their clients. External competing groups have a distinct advantage in that they are used to working under such competitive conditions with no safety net. The internal groups advantage includes their understanding of the business, knowledge of the key people involved, and being the incumbent.
This is where a PSA solution can assist. By capturing and providing critical information within an integrated repository from the point a request or opportunity is recognized until it is scoped, bid, won, scheduled, worked, tracked and billed, an internal support group can transform itself into a strategic partner. Working closely with clients and providing simple, Web-based access to stakeholder information brings immediate value to the relationship. Using tools that you refer to such as spreadsheets, email, etc. do not seriously enhance an organizations ability to support a true enterprise operation. These tools can assist the business but it is not the solution. A solid PSA solution can provide the core enterprise management components one would expect to manage their work and resources while providing or integrating with front office and back office components. Scott,
Today's work environment and project priorities are subject to change at a moments notice, wreaking havoc on a Project Manager's effectiveness and stress level. Does your product enable PMs to keep up with these types of changes better? How? Saving Changes...
PlanView's integrated Enterprise Work Management solution provides the functionality and communication mechanisms necessary for PMs to best manage their ever changing environment. PlanView's various roles allow organizational constituents to interact in appropriate, secure ways against a real-time Repository so PMs have ready access to all changes affecting their work. Below are some features utilized to support this type of tracking:
- The Changes/Issues/Risks feature within PlanView supports tracking and audit trails for change.
- PlanView Alerts with integrated drill-downs can notify users when events have occurred as well as provide detailed information concerning the alert.
- Submit/Approve Status allows Contributors as well as Managers to communicate on project status, remarks, costs, etc. - Web-based HomeView portal allows common access to shared information while configured for each user.
- PlanView's Enterprise Scheduling and Resource Search Engines enable large organizations running hundreds of projects with thousands of resources to do so concurrently within a work portfolio.
Joe, there are many other ways PlanView Software supports PMs in their desire to be more effective. If interested, I'd suggest going to PlanView's Web site (www.planview.com) for additional information or the ability to request a demo CD.
Best,

This is probably a bit off the topic, but I can't find a more appropriate spot. I am looking for a system that users within the company can make service requests. Not a Problem Management system, and not a Change Management system...and while the PSA software addresses all the work *after* the request is made, we are in need of something to present for customer self service to make the requests. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Saving Changes...
PlanView Software does have an integrated service request system as well as a work/project request system. They are wizard-driven capabilities selected based on a user's role within the system. They are then "routed" to the viewing manager for prioritization, action, etc. It is a very powerful feature of PlanView. Saving Changes...
We are undergoing a challenging-but-successful IT enterprise implementation of PlanView. We are just starting to wisely use the service request feature of PlanView. The goal is to eliminate redundant data entry and costly multiple paper-based systems. It looks like we will succeed. Saving Changes...
Our AutotaskPSA software product includes service request capabilities, as well as a full service desk component. We're one of the few vendors to offer this type of functionality.
