As the year comes to an end, and given we are one big community family, it would be interesting to hear about each other’s achievements during the year:

- What did you achieve on a professional level ?
- What did you achieve on a personal level ?
- Did you follow a certain plan you set ?

I will start with myself. On a professional level, in 2019:

1) Professional Development - I attained some of the certifications on my bucket list and exceeded my target:

AgilePM Practitioner, AgilePgM, PfMP, PMI-PBA, Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), Agile Analysis Certification (IIBA-AAC), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB), PMO Value Ring Certified Practitioner (PMO-CP), Professional Scrum Developer (PSD), Professional Scrum Product Owner II (PSPO II)

2) Became a certified Agile and Traditional Project Management Trainer with the International Association of Project Managers

3) Handed over two successful major projects to our client.

4) Volunteered, mostly with PMI, on different functions.

On a Personal Level, long story short, this wasn’t my year at all as I lost my dear Grandmother, and I had my first operation ever which went south so to sum it up, 2019 was a fruitful year Career and Development wise but not on a personal level. I am hoping for a better year in 2020.
Hi Rami,
Thank you for posting this question and starting with your own self-reflection. As we get closer to this year's end, it's time to take a "health check" of where we are and where we want to be.
I am very impressed with your achievements and wish you greater success on both personal and professional levels.
Life is never perfect, we all have our set backs, "tests" and challenges, yet we stay focused, optimistic and I can see also that you are results driven.
My condolences for the loss of your grandmother, and hope 2020 will bring you great success on both personal and professional levels.

Rami -

Professionally I achieved my ICP-ACC earlier this year and tried but was unable to achieve the PSM III credential. The latter bothers me in terms of the sunk cost but not the outcome as the feedback I received from the examiner on their evaluation of my answers shows that they don't live in the same delivery reality as I've been living for the past 20+ years.

Once the exam becomes available within the next month, I'm going to take the DALSM exam as the final step to being able to deliver that PMI/DA training in early 2020.

I also consciously decided I will focus on training first and only take on consulting work which is in support of that vs. trying to keep one foot in both camps.

I continued to contribute to the profession between my virtual community involvement here, as one of the volunteer community moderators on PMI's LinkedIn discussion group, my weekly blogging, presenting at ProjectWorld, like you, providing feedback on PMI's brand refresh during the summer, and like Andrew, I volunteered as an expert at the Ask an Expert sessions at PMI's Global Conference and have been busy reviewing draft content as part of Review Team 1 for the Seventh Edition of the PMBOK Guide.

Personally, I turned a half-century in the same year as PMI did :-). I bought a pool table and my game improved dramatically.

2019 wasn't all roses however - I lost a parent, and a few of my close friends suffered the same losses. Like you, on the personal front, I'm looking forward to a better 2020.
Hi Kiron,

My condolences for the loss of your parent. Hopefully 2020 will bring you great success on both personal and professional levels.
It's been an absolute pleasure to meet you in person in Philadelphia this year!
Best wishes,
Amany

Hi Rami,

I guess it's my turn for self-reflection in pubic!

- What did you achieve on a professional level ?

The highlight of this year on a professional level is getting a new role as an Enterprise PMO Manager, a role that is more akin to a CPO as it reports to the CEO and establishes the disciplines for Portfolio, Program and Project Management on an enterprise level. I am blessed to have this opportunity to make a positive and tangible difference. I am learning a lot about the organisation and how to position the Enterprise PMO and instill good practices leading to a disciplined approach to prioritization and balancing.

On an accreditation level, early this year, I attended a Benefits Management course and passed the Benefits Management Foundation Exam - another humble addition to my certifications.

On a professional volunteering level, in a few days, I conclude a two-year term of co-leading (with my colleague Alankar Karpe) PMI Ethics Member Advisory Group. This has been a great opportunity to lead a global team of volunteers who are passionate about ethics and professional conduct. I continue to be a member of the team as it transforms to PMI Ethics Insight Team, transitioning leadership and supporting the new direction.

I wrote my very first Ethics Bistro Blog in June and concluded the year with a December blog that reflected on the Bush Fires in Australia.

The highlight of my public speaking engagements this year was
- Speaking at the PMI NA Global Conference in Philadelphia presenting on blind spots
- Being a panelist discussing the most recent engineering/infrastructure failures in Australia as part of FIDIC Conference in Mexico City
- Speaking about Ethics and Professional Conduct at the University of Sydney – Master in Project Management Program on International Project Management Day.

- What did you achieve on a personal level ?
On a personal level, I thank God for his blessings and good health. I had an operation in 2017 following a long episode of pain that makes me cherish every moment of good health.
Most recently, one of my closest school friends was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I struggled to accept the diagnosis and I see my past denial reflected by her closest family members as her health deteriorates.

- Did you follow a certain plan you set?
I have a high-level plan where I know what I want to achieve on both personal and professional levels. I have an on-going to do list that I update as I review my goals and achievements.

Cheers!

Thanks you so much for taking the time to share your 2019 Highlights.

You're achievements on a professional level are incredible, wow, I wish you all the best of luck in your new post.

On a personal level, sorry to hear about your friend, I know how difficult it can be and we can only hope and pray that she gets better.

I also hope you have no more pain after your operation (I was in a similar situation this past May so I know how it feels). Please take care of yourself and stay healthy for your family, yourself and us as the world needs brilliant people like you.

I wish you all the best in 2020 and hope to have the pleasure of meeting you in person in 2020 at some point if our paths crossed.

Stay in touch - Happy New Year.

Cheers

Professionally - I have gone beyond the Project Management of deployments and expanded to areas that have truly built growth to my career. I have also had the pleasure in mentoring many PMs here at my organization which has peaked my interest in developing on the PM coach role.

Personally, I have been more apt to accept my faults and change focus on things that don't serve me. Embrace my creative and artistic side.

2019 has been a challenge but I have learned so much from this past year and look forward to apply this to 2020

The moment has probably passed to post this, but sometimes you can only see what you achieved once it's well behind you.

Professionally my (small) team delivered an insanely ambitious project to a demanding customer with amazing results and in good time. Then we took the product open source... innovating. By the end of the year we expanded the team adding our first off shore developers and implementing a whole new set up.

Personally, I saw my daughter turn 18 which isn't completely my own achievement, but was satisfying nonetheless.
