Self publish? Go to a well-known non-fiction publisher. Or go the PMI publishing route. What are the pros and cons?

Dear Sante
I was thinking about what you wrote.

If you choose to write stories that occurred in the context of projects, here at ProjectManagement.com you will find people who can participate in writing a book (through the stories you and they lived).

You can try to challenge some of these people to participate in this project.

Bring people together and create the project
Yes Luis, that is true. Although my question was more about publishing than content creation.

I think the most important thing before deciding your going to publish a book is knowing that you have something to say that is not already out there and deciding how your going to say it. People who believe they have a valuable insight and a story to tell can employ many various means and methods in order to get their message out their, thanks in part to the Internet. Blogging, vlogging, articles, thesis, self publishing and publishing houses are only a few such methods and as such require content to be structured according to the type of reader that they attract. Also knowing where you are in your career and life will also have some bearing on your decision as a collection of stories spanning your career could make a interesting autobiography. It also could make a interesting article for a trade publication. So, knowing what you want to say, how, to who are just some consideration to bear in mind when thinking about publishing your own book.

Sante,

An interesting question that some of us have considered at one point.

Why not ask directly some of the people here that did publish a book?

With a summary, you can try PMI to see if they have an interest. Or some other publisher of project-related books.

Thanks Vincent, I thought about that but wanted to see if anyone with experience in this would chime in before I go and chase down authors in the community.

Dear Sante
I've been thinking about your question

The ProjectManagement.com community was created many years ago.
Over the years many people have written articles, blogs and asked questions about multiple topics.
Over the years a database has been created with a lot of information

On the other hand, the information is already organized by themes

With the necessary permissions, the right technology and staff, and the sponsor ((powered by PMI), "opening the purse strings", is it possible to start a pilot project on a theme of the written book?

After the first delivery (VMP), using an agile approach one could write the book

Hi Luis, PMI isn't really in the business of assisting authors to publish books, meaning it isn't their bread and butter, although they do publish them from time to time.

Dear sante
You can make an author edition.
You may ask some publishers to publish their material.
You can ask PMI to recommend your book as well as the books of other authors.
You can even sell the book through the PMI website, as I've seen with other authors.
A world of opportunity for you
