Self publish? Go to a well-known non-fiction publisher. Or go the PMI publishing route. What are the pros and cons?

I think there are enough books from the past that have captured facts and information until this century. The nuances or adaptations have been adapted based on technology evolution. I strongly believe that we all should look at simplifying and addressing practical issues that are happening in the world now. That will be the best book you try to initiate with indexation from 1 BC or before onwards you can start to collate a universe meta book dictionary.

I am sure other PMs across Universe will start adding references to it. We are best placed to do this job by visiting local libraries, museums and other heritage places and then collate the information.

I usually visit local libraries and places (outside work hours) in any country to gather a lot of information and also understand cultural inputs to adopt myself as PM from these sources to execute projects or programmes. I am happy to contribute from my end if you are willing to take the lead.

Hi Luis, PMI isn't really in the business of assisting authors to publish books, meaning it isn't their bread and butter, although they do publish them from time to time.
Dear sante
You can make an author edition.
You may ask some publishers to publish their material.
You can ask PMI to recommend your book as well as the books of other authors.
You can even sell the book through the PMI website, as I've seen with other authors.
A world of opportunity for you

Dear Sante
I was thinking about what you wrote.

If you choose to write stories that occurred in the context of projects, here at ProjectManagement.com you will find people who can participate in writing a book (through the stories you and they lived).

You can try to challenge some of these people to participate in this project.

Bring people together and create the project
Dear Sante, I can get that organised for you if you really need that help. I mean for the physical copies printing at cost-effective price for you. You can then commercialise it through one of the publishing houses. I know few publishing houses in India who can be able to help you in case the PMI route is not an option for promoting your book.

If I understand your question correctly you're looking at the mechanics to publish a project management book. My first was through Prentice-Hall. Subsequent I did through Amazon's publishing platform kdp.amazon.com. I'd definitely go the Amazon route. I'm happy to talk more if you want to private message me

From recent experience I first went to Amazon and did on search on PM titles. If I recall correctly I came up with 50,000+. Now this isn't to discourage you but decide if you wish to navigate through all publishers and then the competition. The positive side is a publisher will work with you to market the book. I recently went the self publish route with my new book "What the Project Manager Saw." because to be honest I didn't have the patience with shopping publishers. I wanted to just get it out, it takes 1/2 hour to go to market w/ kdp.Amazon, once you've written it. I would take the time to decide what you want from this book. Is it notoriety, money, long term income, speaking gigs, marketing material for your consulting firm. Think about what you want from it and then let those decisions help steer your decisions. There is a lot of good information out there on pro's and con's of non-fiction/specialty publishing. You only have one chance at this so I'd suggest you think it through. Later
