And yes, I have had tremendous results with visual representation of information. It really helps with others see the 'flow' of the work and allow them to paint a picture in their mind to help the information resonate with them.

As an example, I am working with a another coach in my current engagement in developing training materials for new teams. Our premise is to create a more visual and engaging experience. Our first draft was simply a sketch of the path this training will take the audience down.

Those visuals really helped the rest of the team understand our vision and thought process .... not a traditional mind map perse, but a visual representation nonetheless.

abstract
Mindmaps are useful tools when used in Project Management, using brainstorming to assist in the visualization and analysis of possible alternatives for ongoing projects or the relationship with the detailed analytical structure of the project, ie creating a Project Plan, as well as showing how useful it is in defining the scope of the project. As a secondary objective, it presents how to apply Mind Maps in the business environment. The theoretical framework, divided in two parts, introduces the concept of Project Management, from several authors, the second part brings the concepts of Mind Maps, presenting its definition, principles, laws and applications. In the third part shows Mind Maps as a Project Management tool, showing not only the applicability of the tool in the day to day of Project Management but also its importance mainly in the construction and detailing of the analytical structure of the product. It concludes that Mind Map has all the key features to integrate a project manager's tool portfolio to add value in defining and managing project scope, providing a clear, unified, systemic view of the project, with the flexibility to make any necessary adjustments to the project. as well as providing greater involvement of the project team.

Luis -

it depends on the availability of a suitable mind map tool for a given client and how visual-oriented the stakeholders are. Some people learn and digest information better through visual means whereas others prefer lists or other non-visual methods.

I have used when there is value from a visual representation of the data. Type of information, audience, etc.

There are times when used solely for my own collection and organization of information, or for taking an overview to share out with a group to walk them through the narrative behind the organization. I have found that many individuals are visual and gain additional value from seeing a visual depiction rather than bullet points.

Even any kind of drawing, not specifically a mind map, can be super helpful.

Let the creative juices flow!

I have used a Mindmap tool in many cases. It can help organize and understand complex information and regroup them according to different criteria.

Mind maps are great tools to depict different relationships between objects. In fact, mind maps allow you to go beyond two-dimensional mapping.
